September Update
Hello everyone,
Thank you for supporting our initiative!
Your collective effort in sending out support letters to the stakeholders within government and police departments has made a tangible impact on our society as we make reporting hate crimes to the police more accessible.
Because of your help, our efforts have led to:
The introduction of online hate crime reporting forms in over 13 languages at the Vancouver Police Department.
The creation of a new BC RCMP online hate crime reporting pilot program, which is now implemented in Coquitlam and North Vancouver.
In collaboration with the Vietnamese Professionals Association of BC, we submitted a federal report on online hate crime reporting to the National Action Plan on Combatting Hate. The report can be found here.
We provided oral and written submissions to the BC Office of Human Rights Commissioner on why we need to make reporting hate crimes more accessible. See submissions here.
Our advocacy work has been recognized widely by the provincial government and has led to our founder, Steven Ngo, receiving the BC Medal of Good Citizenship, one of the highest honours given to British Columbians.
Of course, we could not have accomplished all of this without your support!
As we continue our push to make hate crime reporting more accessible, we would like to hear your thoughts on what more can be done:
